TOEFL iBT Okuma Bölümü üç temel küme den oluşan okuma parçaları içerir bunlar :
Her bir okuma parçası aşağıda görüldüğü gibi ortalama 27 adet Akademik sözcük, 139 adet ilk 1000 sözcük,10 adet ikinci 1000 sözcük içerir. Okuma parçalarındaki sorulara doğru yanıtları vermek için, her şeyden önce bu okuma parçalarını anlamanın kesinlikle en azından toplamda dilin mekaniğini oluşturan 2570 sözcüğü (İlk 1000 –İkinci 1000 ve 570 Akademik sözcük) bilmekten geçtiğinin farkına varılmalıdır.
